Sara Shahriari

Sara Shahriari (@SaraShahriari) is assistant news director at KBIA-FM, and an assistant professor at the Missouri School of Journalism.

KBIA is an NPR-member station where professional staff work with hundreds of student journalists every year. There she hosts Intersection , a weekly public affairs show produced by students, which received PRNDI awards in 2015 and 2016. Sara also teaches an audio storytelling class for non-journalism majors, which is super fun.

Previously, Sara worked as a freelance journalist in Bolivia for six years, where she contributed print, radio and multimedia stories to outlets including Al Jazeera America, the Guardian , the Christian Science Monitor , Deutsche Welle and Indian Country Today . These days, she spends all her time thinking about how to train great reporters and editors, empower people to tell their own stories, and being amazed by her capable and awesome students.
