Helene Thomas

Helene Thomas is an independent radio producer based in Sydney and Hobart.

She practices Journalism of the heart. This is a slow, empathetic documentary storytelling style that focuses on everyday people and their everyday lives. Her radio documentary work has taken her to Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo to find and share stories about social issues. Most of her work usually finds a place on Australia’s public broadcaster Radio National.

Meet Juma, a Rwandan street boy, whose dream is to become a singer, and Bosco who spends his days fixing broken plastic buckets, casserole pots, shoes, radios and umbrellas to earn a living for his family.
