As the Iowa caucuses approached in February of 2016, Donald Trump’s political campaign was gaining traction with voters. One major theme became clear: fear.

A fear of outsiders, fear of foreigners. In Myrtle Beach, Trump was the main attraction at a tea party convention, where he talked about building a wall and banning muslims: “We don’t know where these guys are from.” At a motorcycle rally outside, producer Ike Sriskandarajah is personally confronted with the same skepticism.

Standing Out From the Crowd at a Trump Rally was produced by Ike Sriskandarajah and edited by Kevin Sullivan and Deb George for Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting and PRX.
