Senza Parole
Rustle of cardboard and tin foil. Polka dots. A curious island in the middle of the Seine.
2014 / Holland Doc Radio, Radio 1 Netherlands, Belgium
Rustle of cardboard and tin foil. Polka dots. A curious island in the middle of the Seine.
These are a few of the clues that Belgian producer Katharina Smets followed on her sonic pilgrimage to the streets of Paris. In Senza Parole, she brings us along on a microphone-led search for connection and surprise.
Senza Parole first aired on Holland Doc Radio on Radio 1 in the Netherlands.
Katharina writes about the the productive joys of traveling alone, meandering and brooding for radiomakers - plus finding deep meaning in cheesy Italian pop songs... Behind the Scenes.
Senza Parole was made possible thanks to a residency from the Dutch-Flemish House deBuren in the Foundation Biermans-Lapôtre in Paris, and was produced at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.
Katharina is currently at work on a series called National Museum, telling stories from Belgian history through found objects and ephemera (in Dutch!).
