In November of 1978, over 900 followers of Jim Jones committed suicide by drinking Flavor-Aid laced with cyanide. Unlike many other cult leaders, Jones began his career with the support of lots of mainstream politicians in California, where his career blossomed. And throughout his rise to power (and eventual infamy) Jones recorded himself for hours on end, preaching, pontificating, and proselytizing.
