Ruth Ellis lived to be over 100 years old. She realized in her teens that she was gay but she didn't talk much about it then.
Not until her 70s, when she was welcomed by a group of younger lesbians, did Ellis experience what she called the happiest times of her life. Her story is one in a series of profiles of centenarians, called One Hundred Years of Stories, that ran on Morning Edition in 2000.
