Ruffian
by Gwen Macsai, produced by Katie Mingle (Re:sound premiere, 2011)
Nothing runs like a horse. Some animals might run faster, but none run more beautifully. When Re:sound host, Gwen Macsai was fourteen, the incredible female race-horse, Ruffian, ran straight into her heart and left a permanent impression.

Running After Antelope
by Scott Carrier (All Things Considered, 1986)
Antelope are some of the fastest animals on earth, they clock fifty, sixty miles an hour. So not many people would entertain the notion of running after one... except maybe veteran audio producer and essayist, Scott Carrier.

We Believe We Are Invincible
by Ben Rubin (The Next Big Thing, 2004)
In sports, the margin of victory can come down to just thousandths of a second. Ben Rubin interviews several famous track and field stars to explore the mental edge athletes try to develop as they prepare for competition. (Commissioned by the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in New York City.)

Runner
by Jon Miller (Marketplace, 2009)
One of the most remarkable marathon finishes in recent history was recorded in 2009 in Boston. There, Kenyan runner, Salina Kosgei had her sights set on the finish line, having traveled half way around the world to get there. She grew up in the highlands of Kenya in a hut with no electricity and no plumbing. As a kid, she used to run 10 kilometers to school, barefoot, just for the fun of it. Her passion is now her profession and it's been a long, hard slog.

Dear Z,
by Julie Shapiro (Re:sound premiere, 2011)
By way of a love letter, Third Coast Artistic Director, Julie Shapiro recounts the incredible racing history of another record-breaking, astonishing filly called Zenyatta.

This episode of Re:sound was produced by Katie Mingle.
