Cindy Carpien started with NPR's Morning Edition in December 1979 - less than two months after it went on the air - when she was barely out of college. She was the director of Weekend Edition Saturday when the program debuted and worked on the show for 11 years. In 1996 she moved to Arizona and worked part time as producer-in-residence for KNAU in Flagstaff, helping local producers make stories for national air. She also worked part time for Morning Edition and is still doing so these days in Palo Alto, CA.
