After the September 11th attacks, pretty much everyone felt like they wanted to do something to help out. People donated money and blood, they volunteered, they wore ribbons or put bumper stickers on their cars. But Shannon Ross Miller, a suburban housewife in Montana, did a lot more than that: she became a remarkably effective citizen spy.

My T-Shirt Says It All

The T-shirt is a staple of the American wardrobe, worn by everyone at one time or another. It's a common denominator in a culture marked by differences. But while it's cheap and easy to make, the humble T-shirt shouldn't be underestimated. It represents a very personal — and yet very public — kind of communication.
