Dat Rona, a Black colloquialism to describe the coronavirus, was produced in 3 days to disseminate ‘Rona’ knowledge after harmful media stories began to circulate that Black people were immune to the virus.
Dat Rona dispels this erroneous claim, teaches what viruses are through a Black culture lens and discusses specifically why the virus is detrimental for Black folks. This episode was recorded early on during the pandemic, which is important as predictions discussed in this episode unfortunately became the reality, and also speaks to the credibility of the show. Spotify’s Sound Up Winner and named "Podcasts Worth a Listen" by the New York Times, In Those Genes is an independently funded podcast that uses genetics to decode the lost histories AND futures of African descendants.
Dat Rona was produced for In Those Genes Podcast by Dr. Janina Jeff (Host and Executive Producer) and Sam Riddell (Lead Producer). Chad Milner is the Music Producer, Chris Diggins is the Creative Director and Dr. Ashira Blazer is the guest medical expert for this episode.
