Story

On the boardwalk, in search of the sound of bicycle bells.

Bicycle Belles was produced for the 2007 TCF ShortDocs Challenge: Dollar Storeys.

Producer

Stephanie Rowden’s work in sound encompasses projects for installation, public art, radio documentary and performance. Her radio features include a piece based on interviews with artists in prisons (Michigan Radio) and an audio essay about the revival of interest in Jewish culture in Poland (Studio 360.) Stephanie is on the faculty of the Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan, and is co-founder of the Radio Campfire listening series in Ann Arbor and Detroit.

Extra

The Dollar Storeys project invited any/everyone to produce a short audio work inspired by one of three items purchased at a dollar store:
- ceramic mug sporting feisty feminist banter
- 4-pack of wooden mousetraps
- an old-school bicycle bell

Bicycle Belles was inspired by the bicycle bell.
