From the moment you enter the restaurant's dining room, you're in complete darkness. Blind waiters take your order, help you find your water glass, and lead you to the bathroom as needed.
While some diners struggle to relax in the pitch black, others find eating at the Blind Cow in Zurich, Switzerland, a sensory delight. Producer Adam Burke brings us to the table to hear for ourselves, while he struggles to identify what's on the end of his fork.
Dinner at the Blind Cow was commissioned for the 2004 ShortDocs: Stories About Darkness.
Adam Burke is an independent audio producer. He lives in a tiny rural Colorado town, and roams the world recording sound and producer stories and news features. His work has aired on NPR, APM and BBC programs.
Dinner at the Blind Cow was presented by Adam Burke in the opening session of the 2004 Third Coast Conference - Into the Darkness: Presenting the 2004 Third Coast Festival ShortDocs.
